McGugan Gone From Wednesday

Wednesday have finally come to terms with Lewis McGugan on his release from Hillsborough after a troublesome two seasons and a bit under head coach Carlos Carvalhal.

The former Watford and Nottingham Forest goalscoring midfielder initially joined the Owls on loan before making the permanent switch to S6 in July 2015. In total he made 39 appearance in total for Wednesday and scored nine goals including a penalty in his last first team appearance as the Owls lost at Wolves 2 – 1 in May 2016 ahead of facing Brighton then Hull in the Playoffs that season.

McGugan slammed Wednesday into the fourth round of the Capital One Cup in the same 2015/16 season and memorably ran the game at St James` Park. A few weeks later then ensured all three-points at home to Preston North End with a divine shot from the halfway line over a scrambling North End keeper. For arguments sake he seized his opportunities when presented to him by Carlos but it didn’t stand him in good stead as he secured little game time and wasn’t handed a squad number last season (16/17) or at the start of the present season. He’ll find another club and hopefully show the potential that Owls fans know he has.
