Owls academy manager Sean McAuley has signed a new contract at the club.

Sheffield-born McAuley has penned a new five-year deal which will see him continue in his role as Academy manager.

Recently rumours had circulated that Dave Allen wanted to take McAuley to Chesterfield, after he impressed the former Chairman in his brief spell as caretaker at Hillsborough.

Under McAuley’s stewardship a number of players have made the transition from academy to first-team and there will be no doubt more to come, with the 1st year scholars being branded ‘the best we’ve ever had.’

It’s decision time on half of the current academy players soon, though. With the 2nd year’s scholarships expiring a few more names are set to be added to the professional list at Hillsborough.

There are also a number of exciting youngsters joining the academy next year and as Wednesday’s global network continues to grow, there may also be an influx of foreign youngsters to supplement the local basis of the side.
