Wednesday boss Alan Irvine has revelaed that Owls chairman Milan Mandaric played a crucial role in helping to bring defender Michael Morrison to Hillsborough.

Mandaric, of course, supplied the cash to splash on Morrison, who arrived at Wednesday from Championship side Leicester City for a fee believed to be £250,000.

But his help in completing the deal for the former Cambridge United man was more than just providing the money to snap him up.

Irvine told the Leicester Mercury: ‘I think Milan managed to do a deal with Leicester that nobody else would be able to do.

‘He has strong Leicester links and did the negotiations as far as the clubs were concerned and was very confident the deal would go through.’

The Owls boss will be hoping his new chairman can help even more as he looks to bolster his squad for a push for promotion from League One this season, with more signings expected this month.
