It was the proverbial game of two halves for Owls boss Gary Megson, who was delighted his side’s second half performance after a pretty drab first 45 minutes.

Second-half strikes from David Prutton and Ryan Lowe, from the penalty spot, gave Wednesday a big three points against Oldham Athletic at Boundary Park on Saturday.

‘This is a really tough place to come to and a lot of teams will leave here with nothing so I am really pleased to get this win,’ Megson told the official SWFC website.

‘Oldham are a good side, they are in form and a lot of people had them down as favourites for this game.

‘But we’re doing OK ourselves right now and I thought we didn’t do enough in the first half to win the game but were much better for the second and we thoroughly deserved that win.’

Latics boss Paul Dickov told the official Oldham Athletic website: ‘There were lots of positives to take from the match. They are one of the favourites for promotion, but I thought we more than matched them and I am really disappointed not to have taken anything from game.

‘Obviously I am disappointed with the result but, if we play like that in every game, we will be alright. We are in the process of becoming a very good team.

‘The effort, application and some of the football we played was top class.’
