Sheffield Wednesday striker Sam Winnall posted a simple message on social media this week and predictably plenty of fans were willing to read into the message and treat it like a cryptic breadcrumb of information that needed to be followed.

I think it says what it does on the tin in many ways, Winnall has simply taken another step in his rehabilitation work following injury and ‘edges’ closer to a return. Whatever that step might be I won’t speculate and he may simply have been cheering himself up with the tweet given his lay off and lack of game action.

Fans were happy to respond in kind with messages relishing his return to the pitch given the threat he can carry up front, even if Wednesday have only seen glimpses of that in his limited game time for us following his arrival from Barnsley and subsequent loan out to Derby County.

When questioned about the tweet in his pre-game press conference, manager Jos Luhukay seemed oblivious to what the player had meant – Click Here.

“I don’t know what Sam means. Yesterday was the first time that he (did) a little bit training with us. But it takes time.”

Whether it was lost in translation, it may have been easier for the gaffer to speculate that Winnall simply meant ‘he did a little bit of group training’ as I would think that is a milestone moment as you recover from a cruciate ligament injury.

Baby steps and all that and if he was back with the group, that would be a boost to be back amongst the team however light and steady his involvement may have been.
