Garry Monk has been given a major boost with Cameron Dawson committing his future to Sheffield Wednesday. The 24-year-old is out of contract in July and has many clubs interested in his signature, but he says he’s determined to extend his stay at Hillsborough and is “in dialogue” over a contract extension.

Dawson told Dom Howson of the Sheffield Star: “We are in dialogue with the club about it (contract) now. I want a quick resolution as much as anyone does. I like things done. I don’t like it when things drag on. Hopefully we will get things done and we can quickly move forward.”

The in-form goalkeeper has reaffirmed his desire to stay at Wednesday earlier in the season, but his future has been up in the air due to his contract running down. Having interest from the likes of Celtic, Rangers, Derby County and Blackburn Rovers could have turned his head too, but Dawson is focused on staying in Sheffield.

It’s not hard to see why either. He’s edged Keiren Westwood out of the starting lineup and has been Monk’s first-choice shot-stopper for a number of months. The Englishman has made 16 appearances in all competitions, conceding 12 goals and keeping eight clean sheets.

It’s great news that Dawson wants to stay. He’s impressed since replacing Westwood and is held in high regard by his manager.
