Highly-rated Wednesday defender Madjid Bougherra will sit out the FA Cup 3rd Round clash with Premiership Manchester City next month through suspension after collecting five yellow cards.

The Algerian international, who has been a revelation since arriving at Hillsborough in the summer, picked up his fifth booking of the season in the Owls’ 2-1 victory at Stoke City on Boxing Day.

The good news is that Madjid will be available for selection in the vital league matches against Barnsley on Saturday and Hull City on New Year’s Day as the suspension doesn’t come into effect until seven days after the incident took place.

The former Crewe Alexandra loanee was one of seven Wednesday players to pick up yellow cards in the fiery Boxing Day encounter. And the Owls are likely to face an FA fine as a result.
