Wednesday’s only fit striker, Steve Maclean, is awaiting news on a scan on his right knee after the former Rangers hitman limped off in the Owls draw with Burnley at the weekend.

Maclean’s injury is just one of a number that have hit the club in recent weeks – leaving Maclean as the only fit striker at Hillsborough. Owls boss Paul Sturrock and fans alike will be waiting wih baited breath on the results of the scan this week.

The Owls hitman jarred his knee after falling awkwardly late on during the 1-1 draw against the lead leaders at Hillsborough on Saturday. The Scot had earlier bagged the Owls first goal of the season from the spot.

Maclean will join fellow strikers Deon Burton (hamstring), Marcus Tudgay (toe), Drew Talbot (knee) and Barry Corr (thigh) on the strikers injury list if scans return bad news to the Wednesday camp.

The news may well mean Sturrock has to sit down with his Chairman, Dave Allen, to discuss possible signings to bolster his striker options while the injury problems reduce.
