Connor Kirby made his 36th appearance of the season for Macclesfield Town in Tuesday’s 1-1 draw with Plymouth Argyle. The 21-year-old played a full 90 minutes at Moss Rose and helped limit the Pilgrims to only three shots on target.
As per WhoScored, Kirby made 30 touches, won one aerial duel, completed 63.6% of his 22 passes, created one chance, had four shots with 25% accuracy, made one tackle, blocked one shot, gave away one foul and made one tackle.
The midfielder is flourishing with regular first-team football, but his future beyond this season is uncertain. Kirby is out of contract in July and doesn’t have a new deal on the table.
He’s made only four appearances for Sheffield Wednesday since rising through the youth ranks to the first-team, the last of which came in the Owls’ 2-2 draw with West Bromwich Albion (October 3, 2018), so it’s hard to see him staying at Hillsborough beyond 2020.
With Barry Bannan, Kieran Lee, Joey Pelupessy and Massimo Luongo ahead of Kirby in the pecking order, he’ll have to find a new club in the coming months. The 21-year-old’s loan spell at Macclesfield has done his reputation no harm, however.
