Today is the final day of the current campaign that Wednesday can bring any players to the club on an emergency loan, or send players out the other way.

And things are expected to be busy at Hillsborough, with boss Gary Megson keen to bolster his squad to avoid any end-of-season relegation battle.

Bolton Wanderers midfielder Joey O’Brien is understood to be on his way to S6 for the remainder of the season, while an experienced goalkeeper is also high on Megson’s priority list.

O’Brien, who would return for a second loan spell following his stint in the 2004-05 season, pulled out of the Bolton Reserve squad that faced Bury this week and reports in Lancashire pointed towards a move to the Owls.

Megson, of course, will know O’Brien well following his stay as Bolton boss.

The Owls manager will also be disappointed if he fails to bring an experienced goalkeeper in to fill in for Nicky Weaver, who is out injured for a month.

The inexperienced Richard O’Donnell was in goal at Southampton at the weekend, and played relatively well, but Megson is still keen for an old head before the transfer deadline.
