Brian Laws has only been out of the Wednesday manager’s hotseat for 24 hours – but rumours of the next Owls manager are already in full flow.

Nigel Worthington, Steve Cotterill, Steve Coppell and Alan Curbishley are amongst the list of names mentioned with the vacant manager position at Hillsborough.

They’re the usual list of candidates should a job become available at this level – a list that comes out regardless of the club involved, or the situation they’re in.

Even Kevin Keegan and Neil Warnock have been linked with the position, but I doubt either will come anywhere close to S6 anytime soon.

Former Wednesday defender Worthington and former Burnley boss Cotterill seem to be the early frontrunners according to media reports, and expect more names to follow in the next few days.

In the meantime, Sean McAuley will be given the job of steering Wednesday to three vital points against Swansea City this weekend.

McAuley had success as an interim manager last time out, and could well be one of the favourites for the job on a permanent basis this time should he repeat his success.

One thing’s for sure, the talk is set to hot up this week – make sure you keep logging on to Vital Sheffield Wednesday for all the latest news.
