Wednesday boss Brian Laws is set to a sign a Premiership striker when the loan transfer window re-opens next week, according to reports from BBC Radio Sheffield today.

The Owls have already signed Bristol City striker Enoch Showunni on a one-month emergency loan deal, and is keen to add more following long-term injury set-backs to Francis Jeffers and Akpo Sodje.

According to Laws, he was all set to bag the striker before the end of the January transfer window but delays saw the deal scuppered, although he insists the deal isn’t dead in the water.

‘The deal got delayed at the last minute but he’s a quality player with a fantastic goalscoring record,’ Laws told Radio Sheffield.

‘It isn’t dead. I hope to do something when we can make loan signings again.’

‘The Whelan money will come in very handy because in the last few months I’ve had to wheel and deal with no money at all.’

The Owls received £500,000 for the former Republic of Ireland under-21 international, and Laws has revealed that the Owls board have promised the full amount to bolster his squad.
