Wednesday boss Brian Laws was full of praise for his ‘brave’ Owls side as they bagged their first points of the season with a 1-0 victory over Hull at the weekend.

A sole Francis Jeffers strike just before the break was enough to give the Owls their maiden win of the season, and Laws admitted it was a massive relief to finally break their new season duck.

‘I am emotionally drained, I’ve got to say, and I’ve told the players off for putting me through all this,’ Laws told the official SWFC website.

‘Our first win has been a long time coming, it’s been a milestone around our neck, which was getting heavier with every game that went by.’

Over 21,000 turned up at Hillsborough despite the Owls’ disastrous start to their campaign, and Laws was grateful for the extra support the Wednesdayites gave out to help push their men home.

He continued: ‘We needed bravery out there today and we also needed a bit of calmness and I thought we had those main ingredients. The supporters today were magnificent and gave the players the challenge; could they respond? They did, they gave everything today.’
