Wednesday boss Brian Laws will be missing tonight’s friendly with Oldham Athletic – to abroad and scout the Owls’ possible new number nine.

Laws is keen to bring a new striker in to the club to complete his jigsaw ahead of the new campaign, and he revealed that he will be travelling to Europe with chief executive Kaven Walker to put his watchful eye over a potential striker.

Laws told the Sheffield Star: ‘We’re going to look at a player we’ve been interested in for a while, and this is an opportunity to see him in a high-quality game.’

And Laws has denied to comment on his target and destination, but revealed that the striker in question will be featuring in a Champions League qualifying match this week.

Laws has already missed out on a number of strikers including Billy Sharp, Grzegorz Rasiak, Kenwyne Jones, Darius Henderson and a trial for Patrick Kluivert, and is keen to get his man ahead of the final friendly of the pre-season against Birmingham City this weekend.

Assistant boss Russ Wilcox and Sean McAuley will be in charge of the Owls in the friendly clash with Oldham this evening.
