Wednesday boss Brian Laws is looking to raise some extra funds to build his squad for the start of the 2008-09 campaign – by shipping out two of the current Owls squad.

Laws has deemed both midfielder Kenny Lunt and striker Leon Clarke surplus to requirements at Hillsborough and is keen to get the duo out of the club to help free up some funds for him to bring new players in.

Laws told BBC Radio Sheffield: ‘If Leon or Kenny decide to move on then there will be money available.’

The duo have both been expected to leave S6 in recent months, although former Wolves hitman Clarke shone in the last two matches of the season – sealing the vital win over Leicester City with the last goal in the 3-1 at the Walkers, and also netting in the final day win over Norwich City.

But Clarke is set to depart for pastures new, with League One side Southend United seemingly renewing their interest in their former loan star, who looked set for a permanent move to Roots Hall when his successful loan stint ended earlier this year, only to see it collapse at the final minute.

But Clarke now seems to have made up with Shrimpers boss Steve Tilson and the move south could be back on.

Kenny Lunt also went out on loan, to former club Crewe this season, but failed to impress on the scale of Clarke at Southend, and it remains to be seen if Alex want their man back on a permanent deal.
