Wednesday boss Brian Laws has revealed he will be sitting down and talking new terms with in-demand winger Chris Brunt when pre-season training commences next month.

The Northern Irish international has been linked with moves to a number of Premiership clubs since the end of the season but has stressed he is keen to stay at Hillsborough and aid a promotion push next term.

And Brunt’s desire to stay at S6 next season has given the Owls boss some post-holiday cheer.

‘It’s music to my ears when I hear players say they want to stay at this football club,’ Laws told the Sheffield Star.

‘If that’s the case with Chris Brunt, then good – we can get down to something. We’ll sit down and discuss matters with him, let’s say as soon as he comes back here for pre-season work. We can get on with it then.’

Brunt is out of contract at the end of next season and the club risk losing him for free next summer if they don’t tie him down to a new deal – but Laws is looking to get it sorted as soon as possible.

‘We want players who want to be here and I’m not surprised Chris says he’s not looking to leave,’ he added.

‘We actually started talking to his agent a fair while ago about renewing a deal. It is something we want to try to progress as quickly as we possible can.’
