Wednesday boss Brian Laws has confirmed that he’s offered former Barcelona and Newcastle striker Patrick Kluivert a trial at Hillsborough this summer.

Rumours were abound that the 31-year-old hitman was a target for Wednesday after Laws revealed he was looking to bring a big name in to the club to bolster his attacking options next season.

And after missing out on Billy Sharp, Grzegorz Rasiak and Kenwyne Jones, Laws has decided to look abroad to freshen his squad up with the Owls trying to bring the former Dutch international to S6 next term.

‘I have a strong contact in Holland who is Kluivert’s agent,’ Laws told BBC Radio Sheffield.

‘We’ve invited the boy down, and I want to run the rule over him. It is just a possibility and is nothing concrete at the moment, but we’ve made an enquiry.’

Premiership clubs Bolton and Wigan have both been offered to see the striker, who was released on a free transfer by PSV Eindhoven, but have rejected the opportunity, paving the way for the Owls to take their chances.
