Wednesday will come up against one of their former players at Swansea today, but striker Shefki Kuqi has been full of praise for the Owls ahead of their trip to Wales.

The Finnish striker will be a key man for the high-flying Swans at the Liberty Stadium today – and he’ll be keen to bag the goals to help his current club cement their position in the Championship play-offs.

But, this afternoon’s 90 minutes aside, Wednesday are a club which the former Blackburn Rovers man holds close to his heart and he looks back to his time at S6 with plenty of fond memories.

He told the South Wales Evening Post: ‘When I look back, I think Sheffield Wednesday was probably the right club at the wrong time for me,’ he says.

‘I had a good time and a bad time there.

‘I have played for Ipswich, Blackburn and Fulham in the Premier League, but I have to say they are the biggest club I have played for.

‘Unfortunately, I think it was the wrong time to be there when I went.’

The Owls splashed out £1 million for his services from Stockport County in 2002 and he went on to make 58 starts in the famous blue and white stripes, netting 19 goals along the way.

He’ll be remembered for netting in the 2-0 Steel City Derby victory over Sheffield United at Hillsborough, where Lloyd Owusu also found the back of the net.

But this afternoon he’ll be looking to get one over on his former club, carrying on the form that saw him net the winner in last weekend’s 1-0 victory at Watford.
