Rumours of a move for former Barcelona and Ajax striker Patrick Kluivert have been ended today with the former Dutch international rejecting a move to Hillsborough.

Owls boss Brian Laws revealed that he’d offered a trial to the 31-year-old earlier in the week after discussing the deal with his agent, and was hopeful to see the Dutchman arrive for a trial.

But all hope now seems to have been ended after the striker revealed that although he was flattered by the interest from the Owls, he won’t be taking up the offer of a trial to play in the Championship next term.

‘I am flattered with the interest,’ he told Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf.

‘However a move to Sheffield Wednesday is not in my future plans.’

Kluivert was released from his contract with PSV Eindhoven after a less than successful spell back in his home land after moving home from Valencia, and the player’s agent had offered him to a number of clubs including Wigan for a trial which was rejected.

And it now seems that Wednesday boss Brian Laws can now turn his attentions elsewhere at filling the vacant number nine shirt as the new season draws ever closer.
