Wednesday wing wizard Jermaine Johnson has signed a new one-year contract to stay at Hillsborough.

The Jamaican was one of three out-of-contract players to be offered new deals at S6 – James O’Connor and Lewis Buxton have already accepted new deals – and will now stay an Owl until at least the summer of 2012.

The 31-year-old was still a key player under Gary Megson, the Owls boss, last season and made 29 appearances in total, scoring five goals along the way.

He arrived in the Steel City from Bradford City in January 2007, signed by former boss Brian Laws, and has been a firm favourite with the Owls fans.

Vital understands other clubs had shown an interest in signing the jet-heeled winger for next season, with Chesterfield one of the names linked, but JJ has opted to pull on the famous blue and white stripes again next term.
