Wednesday winger Jermaine Johnson is set for a spell of up to six weeks on the sidelines after tearing his hamstring in the Owls’ 2-1 victory over Blackpool in midweek.
The Jamaican international was brought off the Bloomfield Road pitch in the first half of Wednesday’s win last Tuesday night.
The news will be a big blow for Alan Irvine and his men in the battle against relegation, with the jet-heeled winger showing a marked improvement in his game since Irvine’s arrival at the club.
But the Owls boss revealed that the former Bradford City man could well return to action sooner than the six week timeframe, insisting that some players react to treatment better than others.
He’ll be keeping everything crossed that Johnson is one of those players that reacts well, then.
Wednesday have proved that they can cope with their fast forward, going on to win the clash at Blackpool thanks to Leon Clarke – Johnson’s replacement – netting what turned out to be the decisive goal.
Victory over Peterborough United followed yesterday, with Clarke putting in another positive display, and strike partner Marcus Tudgay netting a brace of goals.
Luke Varney’s return from Derby County on loan until the end of the season has also come at the right time, meaning Irvine won’t be short of options in attack.
