Long-term injury absentee Francis Jeffers returned to action in a behind-closed-doors friendly against Bradford on Tuesday night, and came through unscathed.

Former Everton and Arsenal man Jeffers made his first appearance of the pre-season in the famous blue and white stripes, and stepped up his return to full fitness along with Steve Watson and new signing Jimmy Smith.

And all three came through unscathed, and could well be in with a shout of being included in Brian Laws’ squad to face Burnley in the Owls’ Championship season opener at Hillsborough this Saturday.

Jeffers is likely to be given extra time in light of his past injury record and the fact that the Owls strike force has performed relatively well in pre-season.

But either/or of Smith and Watson could get the nod for the clash with the Clarets.

Wednesday ran out 2-0 winners over the Bantams, Rocky Lekaj and Charlie Tunnard bagging the goals.
