Wednesday boss Alan Irvine is set to delve into the loan market as he aims to plug the gap left by the injured Mark Beevers.

Beevers is set to spend between six-eight weeks on the treatment table with an ankle injury suffered in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy clash against Chesterfield last week.

And Irvine has since confirmed that he’ll be looking to the loan market to bolster his defence.

Lewis Buxton filled in for Beevers and put in a man-of-the-match performance in the 1-0 victory against Leyton Orient at Hillsborough on Saturday, and also scored the winner.

But with Beevers’ injury and the timely takeover boost nearing a conclusion, Irvine won’t take a risk and is set to look for a short-term replacement in defence.

Wednesday are current under a transfer embargo but that will be lifted as soon as the Owls settle their £600,000 bill with HMRC, which is expected as soon as the investment group put an initial £2m downpayment on the table.
