Wednesday manager Alan Irvine wasted no time in slamming his side’s performance in the 1-0 defeat at Brentford yesterday by declaring his side got what they deserved.

Charlie MacDonald’s 41st minute strike gave the Bees a first win of the season and inflicted a first league loss of the campaign on a below-par Wednesday.

And Irvine failed to argue against the result, insisting that his side didn’t deserve anything from the Griffin Park encounter.

He told the official SWFC website: ‘We got what we deserved and that was not a lot. We huffed and puffed but didn’t really create a great deal.

‘We underhit our passes and were well below the standards we have set during the early part of the season. We must do better.’

And he gave full credit to the Bees for their victory, saying: ‘And full credit to Brentford today. They played very well and fully deserved their win.’

Irvine will now have a full week at Middlewood training complex to work with his troops ahead of Saturday’s clash against Carlisle United at Hillsborough.
