Wednesday boss Alan Irvine insists Wednesday Academy product Liam Palmer is showing plenty of promise.

The youngster was thrown into Wednesday’s squad for the Championship clash against Ipswich Town but never featured.

And, as tipped by Vital’s own Academy know-all Ash, it may not be the last time we see the midfielder in the Owls’ squad before the end of the season.

Irvine has been impressed by Palmer in his appearances for the reserves and during training.

‘Liam did well in the reserves last week. He made two goals and scored one and put himself in contention,’ he told The Sheffield Star.

‘He’s trained with us quite a lot and trained very well. He’s a young lad who shows a lot of promise.’

Current first-team players Mark Beevers and Tommy Spurr have both come through the Owls youth system and it’s hoped Palmer will follow suit.
