As reported on Vital Wednesday earlier today, former Preston North End manager Alan Irvine has become the new manager of the Owls.

Irvine was the leading candidate following his departure from Championship rivals Preston last month, and he’s charged with the task of lifting the Owls to safety this season.

The Scot has signed a three-and-a-half year deal at Hillsborough and his first game, weather permitted, will be a big local derby clash against Barnsley at Oakwell next Saturday.

The former Preston boss has also enjoyed coaching spells at Everton, as David Moyes’ assistant, and academy roles at Newcastle United and Blackburn Rovers.

It’ll be the same again for Irvine, as he looks to mirror his achievement of lifting Preston to safety during his first year in charge at Deepdale.

It’ll be a tougher ask at Wednesday, no doubt, but Vital Wednesday wishes Alan and his staff all the best for the task ahead.
