Adam Reach has struggled for form, fitness and playing time at Sheffield Wednesday this season, suffering a complete reverse of fortunes from last year, explains Dom Howson of Yorkshire Live.

Who did Sheffield Wednesday sign Josh Windass on loan from?

The 27-year-old has made 33 appearances in all competitions this campaign, scoring two goals and making seven assists. Reach played a lot of games but has been in protective strapping, so there’s reason to believe he’s been in discomfort for most of the season.

It may be why he’s not been at his best, with his last goal in the Championship coming in September 2019 while his last assist was in January 2020. As per WhoScored, Reach created 31 chances, made 19 successful dribbles (43%) and whipped in 71 crosses with 29.6% accuracy before the season was postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Reach completed 77.1% of his 594 passes, win 21 aerial duels (33.9%), had 46 shots with 21.7% hitting the target, blocked 18 passes/shots/crosses, made 18 clearances, won 11 free-kicks, have given away 18 fouls and averaged a tackle (35) or interception (13) every 45 minutes.

Not only was the midfielder likely carrying a knock for months, he picked up a toe injury in early-February and wouldn’t feature again before the season was postponed. Reach himself has admitted underperforming in 2019/20, but his future at the club may now be uncertain.

The 27-year-old is out of contract in 2021 and will need to impress to stand a chance of getting a new deal.
