Sheffield Wednesday have revealed that Steven Fletcher is ‘making good progress’ in his recovery from a knee injury and could return to the training ground in a few weeks. Garry Monk previous said Fletcher’s rehabilitation was going as planned, so a March return-date looks on the cards so long as there are no setbacks.

The 32-year-old has made 24 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring and creating 14 goals. His last outing came in Wednesday’s FA Cup win over Brighton & Hove Albion (January 4). Fletcher has since missed five games through injury, but he’s only made two appearances for the Owls since mid-December.

Wednesday were desperate to bring in firepower to offset the loss of the Scottish international, so Garry Monk will be delighted to have Connor Wickham, Alessio Da Cruz, Josh Windass and Fernando Forestieri to face Barnsley. Atdhe Nuhiu, Jordan Rhodes and Sam Winnall will also be available, so Monk is overwhelmed with choice.
