Sheffield Wednesday have been given an injury boost ahead of Tuesday’s trip to face Wigan Athletic, with Garry Monk revealing that Kieran Lee “has a chance” of returning.

The 31-year-old missed Wednesday’s 2-1 win over Queens Park Rangers (January 24) due to a shoulder injury from the Owls’ 2-0 win over Leeds United (January 11) that he exacerbated in the 5-0 defeat to Blackburn Rovers (January 18).

Monk explained in Monday’s pre-match press conference: “Kieran has a much better chance (of being involved). He should be out there training (Monday). He got hit from behind at Leeds on his shoulder and carried it into the Blackburn game. It was just a bit sore so that’s why he didn’t play against QPR.”

Lee has made 18 appearances in all competitions this season, creating three assists. He’s not been a regular in midfield under Monk, but his return comes at a good time as Wednesday are suffering an injury crisis of late.

The Owls could be without Liam Palmer (ankle), Sam Hutchinson (foot), Massimo Luongo (groin), Steven Fletcher (knee) and Fernando Forestieri (fitness) against Wigan, so Monk will be forced into making changes.

Wednesday have Moses Odubajo & Osaze Urhoghide who can replace Palmer, Lee, Barry Bannan & Joey Pelupessy who could replace Hutchison & Luongo, and Jordan Rhodes, Sam Winnall & Atdhe Nuhiu who could replace Fletcher & Forestieri.
