Sheffield Wednesday’s winless run in the Championship extended to five games after they drew 1-1 with Birmingham City on Wednesday. Some players came away with praise from supporters despite the result, but the majority underperformed on the night and were criticised on social media.

Barry Bannan was one of many to be slated by fans, and he may find his place in the side being up for grabs if things don’t improve. The 29-year-old saw a lot of the ball but was wasteful in possession and didn’t provide much defensive protection over the 90 minutes.

Against Birmingham, Bannan made 87 touches, created three chances, had two shots, completed 85.7% of his 70 passes, whipped in 11 crosses, made one tackle and made two successful dribbles. The Scotland international failed to register a shot on target, failed to make an interception and spurned 73% of his crosses.

Wednesday’s poor run of form sees them slipped down the table, so Garry Monk is expected to make one or two changes ahead of Saturday’s trip to Charlton Athletic.

How will Sheffield Wednesday fare against Charlton Athletic?

Win

Draw

Lose

Sam Hutchinson lost his place after a poor performance against West Bromwich Albion (November 23), so Bannan can’t afford any more below-par showings.
