With talk of Sheffield Wednesday attempting to trim their wage bill this season and offload a few players so head coach Jos Luhukay can operate with a smaller first team squad, even allowing for some additions of his own, fans are united in seeing one player, in particular, depart Hillsborough this summer.

29-year-old Marco Matias joined the club for a fee reported to be in the area of £3-4million back in the summer of 2015, but his time with the club so far has seen him make a paltry 16 starting appearances, with a further 22 showings from the bench. The Portuguese player has returned four goals in that time.

The player’s potential quality is clear to see…when he shows it. That has been the problem even if you allow him the excuse of how injuries have blighted the former Portuguese Under 21 international’s time with us and whether that lack of game time and a sustained run in the side has dented his confidence.

There are other reasons you can factor in, his versatility being leaned on as a Jack of all trades, rather than mastering one to both parties benefits also stands out.

After this length of time though and cost cutting a greater order of the day, fans are clearly on board that it’s best for all concerned to sever ties one way or another as we build up to the season of 2018/19.

If confidence is a big issue, it’s probably best he doesn’t see the tweets!
