Mark Hollins makes a welcome return to Vital Sheffield Wednesday in 2007 to look back at an interesting 2006 and what lies ahead for Brian Laws’ Owls…

Well that’s 2006 done and dusted.

Phew.

Not the worst year on record, it has to be said. We ended last season sparkling, we ended the year sparkling. We didn’t start either well.

Hope everyone had a fantastic festive season!

Mark Crossley grabbed his and Wednesday`s first ever goal from a goalkeeper in open play. Absolute magic! Not the best 3-3 on record but still? what a climax.

Think Sharon Stone – Basic Instinct.

Then to two more away wins notched. If only a ground share enforcement was imposed on us, moving from S6 for a few month, we’d fly up. Lest we forget the fantastic atmosphere these occasions so often generate in comparison.

Not that I was overawed by the wizards whilst stood in on the wood at Oakwell. I think we simply found the goals which so desperately went missing just two weeks previous against Brum.

To ’07. Not an ideal start against one of the strugglers (nice not to be considered in the same batch). Two suspect Nicky B strikes condemn us to the first defeat no one really anticipated. This was truly a Wednesday result. We can’t win em all eh.

And what for the season? Narrowly missing out on the play offs would be an unforeseen possibility stood in the rain at Colchester. Such the change in fortunes that I’ll get a huge negative badge for saying we may fall just short. Dear lord I hope I’m wrong.

Whatever unfolds over the next 12 months we can rest assured that not one minute will be spent outside the top two tiers of English football, Possibly the most comfortable we`ve been since we dropped many moons past.

Thanks for an interesting millennium plus six SWFC.

FAO DA? Get the cheque book out, we maybe looking a gift horse otherwise?

UTO!
