Wednesday are set to miss out on the loan capture of Leicester City defender Jack Hobbs, with Hull City the player’s expected destination.

Owls boss Gary Megson has confirmed his interest in bringing Hobbs to Hillsborough on loan but also all-but conceded defeated in the race to sign him.

Megson contacted the Foxes last week regarding the centre-back but faced competition from Nigel Pearson, Leicester’s former manager, for his signature at Hull.

And the Owls boss told the official SWFC website: ‘We made a move for Jack Hobbs but that one looks unlikely right now. We have one or two others we are looking at as well so we’ll move on.’

Hobbs is highly rated at the Walkers Stadium but has fallen down the pecking order after City boss Sven Goran Eriksson bolstered his squad with an array of new signings last month.

Megson will now turn his attentions elsewhere, although it seems a new defender is the top of his wanted list.
