Plans to improve Wednesday’s Hillsborough stadium are set to get the green light from councillors following advice from planning officers.

The Owls have drawn up a £22m scheme that will increase the Hillsborough capacity to 44,800 as well as add brand-new facilities to S6 both football and non-football related.

And planning officers have recommended to councillers for the scheme to be given the go-ahead.

The scheme has been put in place as Sheffield, and Hillsborough, looks to be chosen as a host city should England win the rights to the 2018 World Cup.

But the plans that’ve been drawn up will help bring the club closer the the community, with classrooms and enterprize zones included in the development.

The Sheffield Council west and north planning board will meet to discuss the plans on Tuesday, with more information set to be released.
