Wednesday striker Paul Heffernan is being linked with a loan move to former club Bristol Rovers in the January transfer window.

Heffernan, a free transfer to Hillsborough in the summer, has found first team starts hard to come by under boss Alan Irvine this season.

And reports are linking him with a move to the Owls’ npower League One rivals on loan, where he spent a previous loan stint while on the books with Doncaster Rovers.

Heffernan came off the bench to score as Wednesday came from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 with Charlton Athletic on Saturday.

But most of his appearances in the famous blue and white stripes have come from the bench this season, with the striker making just one senior start and ten stints from the bench.

And with Irvine looking to further bolster his attacking options this month, on top of the arrival of Gary Madine from Carlisle United, Heffernan could be surplus to requirements at S6, despite calls from Wednesdayites for a prolonged run in the first team.

Heffernan made eleven appearances for the Pirates in the second half of last season, scoring four goals along the way.

And Rovers are keen to bolster their squad this month as they look to haul themselves out of the League One relegation places.
