Sheffield Wednesday are set to host high flying Leeds United on Friday evening in front of the Sky Sports television cameras and Sheffield Star journalist Dom Howson has confirmed that the club are expecting a +27,000 crowd at Hillsborough for the Yorkshire derby clash.
In this day an age when you consider the economy, 27,000 isn’t too shabby in my mind, especially as the game is being given a national audience and that always affects attendance figures, even if just the floaters who make their decision later based on how their week at work has gone and whether they want to do something different and have the cash free.
Spoken to a #SWFC official. Owls are expecting a crowd of around 27,000 for Friday's Yorkshire derby with Leeds. That would be Wednesday's biggest attendance so far this season. Given it is on TV, I think that would be a pretty good turn-out. pic.twitter.com/kbrIGCy4r2

With Leeds’ unexpected form under new gaffer Marcelo Bielsa and our improving form under Jos Luhukay, it should be set to be a good clash but I can understand the reactions from some to the attendance reveal as ticket prices aren’t exactly a new topic of conversation at the club.
Not the ones questioning the support though.
Feels like it should be more! Wednesday doing well, game against leeds… Hoping for 30k at least!

Leeds is a one club city with the mentality that we’re one of their biggest rivals. It’s an absolute day out for them in the same way with us in the steel city derby.

Terrible support? £39-£46 a ticket, that is whats terrible not the fans. Principle.

So only around 2k owls fans paying on the day match prices! That must tell DC that it's far to much for 2nd tier football live on telly. £39 cheapest adult ticket. #twentiesplenty

Roughly 20,000 season ticket holders and 5,000 Leeds fans. Disgusting prices #swfc Work 6 hours to afford to get on the Hillsborough Kop for a championship match on TV.

Who even cares? Do we get more points for more fans?

Fair turnout considering £39 on Kop vs £7.99 for a Now Tv Day Pass.

I have season ticket but I do see why lots of fans won’t come at those prices when they can spend it on booze in a pub with mates ????♂️

Sky or not that’s no excuse. Doing well and can only sell 22.5k is awful
