Owls boss Stuart Gray will be in with a shout of being shortlisted for the Sky Bet Championship Manager of the Month award for January thanks to Wednesday’s unbeaten run of form.

Gray has overseen a huge upturn in results for Wednesday through January, helping the Owls to a seven-game unbeaten run, that stretches to nine including results in December, which has seen Wednesday move up the table and progress through two rounds of the FA Cup.

The highlight was a 6-0 thrashing of Yorkshire rivals live on Sky TV, while victory over Blackpool on New Year’s Day and Macclesfield in the FA Cup Third Round Replay saw the Owls win all three of their home matches in the month.

A creditable draw at high-flying Burnley was the highlight away from home, where the Owls remained unbeaten and progressed in the FA Cup with victory at Rochdale at the weekend.

The results should mean the Owls boss is in with a big chance of being shortlisted for the monthly accolade, just days after being confirmed as permanent successor to Dave Jones.

Despite being knocked out of the FA Cup, former Wednesday player Nigel Pearson, now manager at table-topping Leicester City, is expected to be front-runner for the award thanks to guiding the Foxes to eight wins on the spin in the league.
