Wednesday midfielder Michael Gray has been dealt a blow with the news that he’ll miss the remainder of the season through injury.

The former Sunderland and Blackburn Rovers man has been sidelined for the last few weeks after picking up the initial injury in the 2-2 draw at Watford last month.

The 34-year-old, who signed for the club until the end of the season from Wolves, had surgery but needs at least three months recovery time before getting back on the pitch.

The news could also be a blow to any aspirations Gray had of penning an extended deal with Wednesday next season.

‘Michael had an exploratory operation to find the cause of the pain in his shoulder and that minor surgery has effectively ended his season,’ Brian Laws told www.swfc.co.uk.

Wednesday brought in forward Luke Varney until the end of the season to plug the gap left by Gray.
