Wednesday boss Brian Laws has suffered a blow in the run up to Saturday’s clash with Colchester by hearing striker Deon Burton will be sidelined through injury for two weeks.

The former Derby hitman played for the Owls’ reserves in their 2-0 victory over Leeds reserves at Elland Road in midweek, and picked up strained ligament damagement in the clash.

Burton is likely to be missing the Owls’ vital clashes with Colchester tomorrow, Southampton next Tuesday, and the home match with Coventry City the following Saturday.

And the news could well mean Wade Small is given the chance to impress in attack from the bench, with Burton coming on from the subs bench in the Owls’ last six matches.

Small has been used in a midfield role this season, but Laws is confident the former MK Dons man can also impress in attack, with no other attacking options available for Wednesday in light of Burton’s injury.
