The Owls forgotten man Peter Gilbert is set to be sent out on loan by Wednesday boss Brian Laws in the January transfer window as he looks to get back to full fitness after recovering from injury.

The former Leicester City and Plymouth Argyle left-back has been out of action since March with knee ligament damage sustained in the victory at Wolves.

Laws told the official SWFC site: ‘He can only get so much fitness in general day-to-day training and his next game isn’t until January 10th.’

The Owls are currently using highly-rated youngster Tommy Spurr at left-back with former Gillingham man John Hills also on the sidelines through injury – but Laws is keen to get some consistency at the back.

Gilbert followed his former Plymouth boss Paul Sturrock to Sturrock after impressing on a loan deal from Leicester City – before completing a full deal and making ten starts for the club.
