Wednesday defender Peter Gilbert has returned from his loan spell at Doncaster Rovers and hopes to bolster the Owls defensive options following ten months on the sidelines.

The former Plymouth Argyle and Leicester City left-back enjoyed a month’s loan spell at the League One club as he recovered from a knee injury which saw him sidelined since the Owls’ 3-1 victory against Wolves last March.

And Owls boss Brian Laws is confident Gilbert can step up and help the Owls out during a time which has seen Wednesday leak goals left, right and centre due to injuries at the back.

Laws told the Sheffield Star: ‘Peter has got the games in and looks fitter. We’ve had him watched for two games as well. Hopefully he can help us to freshen things up. He looks in good nick; the move seems to have done him the world of good, and it’s been better for him than playing reserve games.’

Ther 23-year-old made four appearances for Rovers during his spell at the Keepmoat Stadium – and help the South Yorkshire club on a fine run of form which has lifted them close to the League One play-off spots.
