Wednesday left-back Peter Gilbert is understood to have handed in a transfer request at S6 after Wednesday reported Plymouth Argyle for an illegal approach for the player.

Former Owls boss Paul Sturrock was reported to be interested in signing the defender, with Wednesday making a complaint to the Football League last week for an illegal approach for the former Leicester City man.

And that has seemingly prompted Gilbert to hand in a transfer request to Owls boss Brian Laws, which is understood to have been rejected.

Gilbert played in the Owls’ Carling Cup first round defeat to Rotherham United in midweek, although Richard Hinds is expected to return at right-back for the trip to Wolves this weekend.

And with Argyle since signing Chris Barker from Queens Park Rangers to bolster their defence, Gilbert could well be stuck at Wednesday for some time.
