Wednesday boss Brian Laws has received a further blow on the injury front with the news that utlity man Richard Hinds could be out of action for up to eight months.

Laws brought Middlesbrough right-back Tony McMahon in on loan after former Scunthorpe man Hinds was feared to be out on the sidelines for around two months.

But Hinds, who broke his lower leg in the 4-1 defeat at Wolves, is now facing being out of action for the rest of the season and Laws could well look to extend the loan of McMahon.

‘We have to strengthen that area because we can’t put timescales on Frankie Simek’s comeback and Richard Hinds now looks likely to be out for six to eight months,’ Laws told the official SWFC website.

‘He has been to see the specialist again. When he went before, the initial timescale put on it was three to six months but now they have gone to between six and eight months, which is a massive blow for the kid and for the club.

‘All specialists will say they have to err on the side of caution but it is still a long time,’ the manager continued. ‘I feel for him because he is in the last year of his contract and he has given everything for the football club. He got injured and we need to take his welfare into consideration. I am disappointed for him and I hope he has a speedy recovery.’
