No player came away with much credit from Sheffield Wednesday’s 5-0 defeat to Blackburn Rovers, but Jacob Murphy was singled out by supporters for his poor performance. The 24-year-old saw very little of the ball over the 90 minutes and failed to create a single opportunity for his teammates.
Murphy has struggled for form since joining Wednesday on loan from Newcastle – 21 league appearances, three goals, one assist. He’s been inconsistent on the wing which has resulted in Garry Monk sometimes swapping him Kadeem Harris or Adam Reach.
Monk has to take some of the blame for that shambolic display today.when will he learn that formation doesnt work for us. Particularly at home when we should be on the front foot. Winnall had no chance on his own. Murphy is a fraud. Poor management today. #swfc @domhowson

If Jacob Murphy is your main creative outlet then you should be able to see the problem #swfc

Watching Kieran Lee today was like watching your favourite pet when it was full of energy but when it gets old & past it & it’s going through the motions & needs putting out of its misery #thanksforthememories

Fans blaming Winnall give your head a wobble. Strikers don’t lost you games.
30% possession for a 5 man midfield is the problem. Love Bannan but playing so deep invites problems, he was more in centre half.
Reach & Murphy are soft as hell & had no urgency to help. #swfc

Against Blackburn, Murphy made 32 touches, completed 76.9% of his 13 passes, whipped in one cross, made three clearances, drew one foul, made one successful dribble and had one shot on target. The wide-man failed to create a chance or find a teammate with a cross. He was dispossessed four times and made three unsupported touches.
Murphy has scored just one league goal since early-November and has only one assist to his name this season. He’s not set the place alight since joining from Newcastle which may be why Monk has been looking to sign Josh Sims from Southampton.
