There have been a number of talking points for Sheffield Wednesday fans in the Championship campaign of 2018/19, and hot topic was the future of goalkeeper Keiran Westwood.

Despite being fit his face (or wage packet) didn’t suit former manager Jos Luhukay and there was even some confusion earlier in the season where the 34-year-old took to social media to dismiss suggestions he was unfit and was carrying an injury.

Whatever the truth may have been, come late December fans got their first look at the man as he took to the pitch for our victory over Preston North End. He hasn’t looked back either featuring 13 times since then as our form took a trip in the right direction.

New Republic of Ireland manager Mick McCarthy is getting ready for his first games during his second spell in charge and Westwood finds himself back in their provisional squad for the Euro 2020 qualifiers against Gibraltar and Georgia and it should be a further boost to him – if he needs one with eight clean sheets in 12 Championship games.
