Former Owls striker Paolo Di Canio, now manager at Swindon Town, has invited former Wednesday winger Etienne Esajas for a trial at the League One club.

The Dutchman has been playing in the Eerste Divisie with Helmond Sport recently but is keen for a return to English football and he’ll be looking to impress with Town.

Esajas made 60 appearances for the Owls during a three-year stint at the club which was plagued by injury.

He arrived at Hillsborough from Vitesse and showed signs of his quality but was never able to hold down a place in the Owls’ first team.

Esajas is on trial with Swindon this week and Di Canio will make a decision on whether to sign the player on a permanent basis on due course.
