With the announcement of the Sheffield Wednesday shirt numbers for the coming Championship campaign of 2018/19, in reality, there’s little that can be read into the numbers and their attribution around the playing squad.
There were some changes compared to 2017/18 and some departures had to be factored in for obvious reasons, and we also saw some Academy graduates rewarded with numbers based on their progress so far and presumably manager Jos Luhukay’s hopes for them in the coming year.
It’s not exactly new to the planet and it’s definitely not new to football, but social media can be a wild and wonderful thing – not least weird – and maybe it’s just the way I’m wired, but some of the reactions to the numbers given or selected by players left me chuckling away like I was reliving the first time I watched Monty Python all those years ago in my youth.
Here are some of the best ones – it’s probably not fair that some players are easy go-to’s, but I don’t make the rules.
People said same last year and before about atty. clean slate. New coach new pre season give him a chance

Some people just don’t want to support their team clearly.
— Reachinho (@JackSWFC_) July 19, 2018
Christ….. Relax fellas. Obviously tongue in cheek. Youre allowed to not rate players ????????
— Ash (@cashleydavies) July 19, 2018
No one's making them support the team, if anyone is unhappy they are quite welcome to go elsewhere!!

As long as a goalie doesn’t wear 2-11, I couldn’t care less what the numbers are. If a striker wants to wear 3 or is given 3, so what? Some of the replies in this are barmy. They are numbers for crying out loud…

actually worse than moaning about the kit. amazes me why such ridiculous unimportant things people get upset about.,
