Steven Fletcher came off the bench to score the winning goal in Sheffield Wednesday’s 1-0 victory over Charlton Athletic and was hailed by some supporters on social media.
The 32-year-old replaced Kadeem Harris in the second half and struck at the death to end the Owls’ seven-game winless run in the Championship – heading home from close range after Tom Lees glanced the ball in his direction.
It's Steven Fletcher's world and we're all living in it 😍 #swfc

Fletcher is brilliant really isn’t he. What is he now 33? If you didn’t watch footy and watched Wickham and Fletcher tonight and had to guess who the 27/28 year old premier league striker was – bet most would say Fletch #swfc

Pretty obvious how important Fletcher is for Monk's system and for the club as a whole. We can't let him leave. #swfc

Forestieri, Bannan, Lees, Palmer, Lee and Fox all brilliant tonight. Fletcher coming on and showing what we’ve missed for weeks as well. What a vitally important win #SWFC

Against Charlton, Fletcher played for 33 minutes, had 26 touches, won four aerial duels, completed 53.3% of his 15 passes, created one chance, had three shots with 100% accuracy, made one clearance, drew two fouls and had one successful dribble.
The Scottish international had been out of action for eight weeks with a knee injury and made his return off the bench in Wednesday’s 3-3 draw with Birmingham City (February 22). Post-injury, he’s only amassed 51 minutes of football but has made a big impact.
Wednesday had picked up only six points from their last 11 games prior to their midweek victory while failing to win at home in 2020, but they’ll go into Saturday’s home meeting with Derby County confident of getting a result.
