Explained: When will Josh Windass and Connor Wickham play for Sheffield Wednesday?

|

Sheffield Wednesday did two bits of business on deadline day to strengthen their attack, bringing in Josh Windass on loan from Wigan Athletic and Connor Wickham on loan from Crystal Palace. The duo joined on January 31 but weren’t eligible to play in Wednesday’s 0-0 draw with Millwall (February 1).

They will be available for selection against Barnsley on Saturday, however.

Windass will provide a goal threat and some creativity between the lines. He scored four times in 15 league games for Wigan, has created 15 chances and made 11 successful dribbles (42%). Wickham had two separate spells at Wednesday in the past and will be an instant fan-favourite upon his return.

The 26-year-old hasn’t long returned from injury that kept him out for most of the season, but he scored and created 12 goals in 17 appearances over two stints on loan (February 8, 2013 – March 14, 2013) (November 1, 2013 – January 27, 2014), so supporters know what to expect.

Now Wickham is fit, Garry Monk may be tempted to throw him in against Barnsley to build up his match fitness. Fernando Forestieri, Alessio Da Cruz, Atdhe Nuhiu, Jordan Rhodes and Sam Winnall are also options in attack.
