Explained: How much of Connor Wickham’s wages have Sheffield Wednesday offered to pay?

|

Sheffield Wednesday are interested in Connor Wickham on loan after losing Steven Fletcher to injury, but the Owls are yet to agree a deal with Crystal Palace. Wickham has struggled for fitness and playing time with the Eagles and may jump at the chance to join his former club, but Wednesday’s bid may not be acceptable to Palace.

According to The Sun (h/t HITC), the Owls have offered to pay £12k-per-week towards Wickham’s wages – 30% of what he earns at Selhurst Park. Palace want a suitor to cover more of his salary if they’re to let him leave on loan, however. The report also suggests Wednesday may have to offload Jordan Rhodes to reinvest the money towards signing Wickham.

With Fletcher being out of action for two months, the Owls desperately need another striker. Rhodes (3), Atdhe Nuhiu (3) and Sam Winnall (1) have netted only seven times between them this season – five fewer than Fletcher has managed by himself. Wednesday have shown an interest in Bristol Rovers’ Jonson Clarke-Harris, but it remains to be seen who they’ll sign this month.
